Tate & Lyle has made a lot of progress in the previous years when it comes to safety. A recent safety and cultural assessment comparing Tate & Lyle with the Oil & Gas Industry revealed opportunities to further enhance our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) processes and culture towards how we look at process safety, occupational safety and environmental aspects of our operations.Tate & Lyle will embark on a Journey to EHS Excellence (J2EE); a strategy developed for the next 3 – 5 years. The Site EHS Manager will drive and support initiatives two facilities (Sagamore and Lafayette), in line with global Journey to EHS Excellence, together with the site’s leadership teams of both facilities to improve overall EHS performance of the facility. This individual will work on projects of varying scope that will encompass environmental, regulatory, fire, safety/ergonomics and emergency response matters for both facilities (total ~500 employees and contractors).

Responsibilities And Accountabilities

  • Build and lead the EHS team of the Sagamore and Lafayette facilities (7 fte)
  • Work together with leadership teams of both facilities to develop the Journey to EHS Excellence


  • Develop an annual EHS Strategic Plan
  • Analytical review of site data (Monthly and Annual)
  • Understand, Communicate and Monitor Priorities, Goals and Objectives
  • Incorporate cross-functional directives into EHS planning
  • Share challenges and best practices within wider EHS community
  • Provide understanding and translate the strategy to tactical decision at local level


  • Engage, influence & empower site leadership teams in the development and implementation of the Tate & Lyle EHS Management System and the Journey to EHS Excellence
  • Provide EHS Team structure with opportunities for involvement
  • Own 1 or 2 Elements of the EHS Management System
  • Active positive promotion and implementation of J2EE & EHS
  • Empower EHS Management System element owners;
  • Compile internal audit schedule based on Tate & Lyle EHS management system


  • Drive Culture change and sustainability through J2EE implementation
  • Build strong relationship, on every level
  • Organize cultural EHS events – EHS Day, Strategic Plan Launch, EHS Element Owner week etc
  • Perform periodic EHS cultural Pulses to gauge the EHS awareness and performance
  • Frequent testing of the EHS communication plan


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety or Chemical Engineering from an accredited University or College
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as site EHS Manager/Leader in an process/food industrial environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams
  • Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability
