President's Message - Summer 2008

“Summer time…..and the living is easy,” goes the well known song by George Gershwin.
I hope all members are having a pleasant, relaxing and enjoyable summer. It’s also a time when the Chapter takes a break from holding its monthly meetings. We’ll be starting up again on Wednesday September 17th. Watch this site and an email detailing the location and topic.

I’m proud to report that your Board of Directors are continuing their work to provide members with an exciting 2008 / 2009 program. In June, members staffed a booth at the Indiana FFA convention, informing students of the careers that are available in the safety profession. The booth was a joint venture with the Central Indiana sector of the AIHA and the Indiana Department of Labor.

Directors are also in discussion with representatives of the Indiana Safety Educators organization; which is affiliated with the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association. The Chapter is exploring how it can assist this group in providing smoke detectors to needed households throughout Indiana during Fire Prevention Month in October.

Your 2009 Safety Conference and Expo organizing committee has been busy selecting agenda topics, identifying knowledgeable speakers and building the conference’s agenda. Our theme for this event is “The Business of Safety – a Value that Matters”. If any chapter member has a presentation topic or speaker recommendation they would like the committee to consider, please provide us with your thoughts. You can email them in care of my attention at mgabinet@trane.com.

On behalf of your Board of Directors, it has been a pleasure to have served you this past year. Have a safe and pleasant summer. See you in September.

Member News Update: The National ASSE office announced that the motion to increase society dues by $ 29 per year was defeated by a very close margin.
